When the economy is on an upswing, even an underperforming Leader looks like he is doing a great job. It’s only when adversity strikes, that the real value of leadership agility, resilience, innovation, and adaptability comes to the forefront. Organizations take time to realize that it wasn’t the leader’s performance, but the market economy that was driving success.

As the Boards/ Owners mind-space is now locked on reviewing business, leadership chasms are getting exposed and they are discreetly seeking advice and understanding of the quality of leadership talent available. Disruption shows up as light through the cracks in the form of operational inflexibilities, ineffective supply chains, consumer apathy, and the failure to innovate and leverage technology. However, it also provides the Executive Leadership an opportunity to exhibit their vision, agility, and skills to navigate through multiple uncertainties and complexities, to avoid panic, and maintain seamless business continuity.

We expect India to bear the full extent of economic damage and challenges in Q2. Rebuilding would start only in Q3 and its’ not going to be an easy journey. Many leaders who haven’t been agile in proactively managing the complexities of the pandemic would have to look for different options. The C-Suite Leadership is rarely downsized. It is replaced.

Recovery would be initiated by a significant change in leadership strategies. As new business reality unfolds, you may have to delve deeper into your reservoir of intrinsic strengths, deconstruct the challenges, innovate, and align to evolve a New You.
